Aula Empresocial, run by the Faculty of Law of València, celebrated on 15 October a new conference aimed at Baccalaureate and Vocational Training students in the framework of the cycle 'Emprendimiento en Economía Social' ('Social Economy Entrepreneurship').

The workshop was designed to be taken on-site at the Colegio Juan XXIII of Burjassot and adresses the topic of Social Economy, making a distinction between this and the other more frequently used economic models currently in use and highlighting its advantages and disadvantages.

Alicia Mas, Business Management professor of the Universitat de València, who was tasked with the presentation and direction of the workshop, which lasted approximately four hours. Aside from the professor, Antonia Sajardo, Applied Economics full professor at the Faculty of Law who spoke about sustainability and social entrepreeurship; Emili Altur, manager of CENEF SLU, who spoke about intrinsic sustainability in this economic model; Helga Figueroa, CEO of Koira  Adiestramiento Canino and Diego Albizu, secretary of Okambuva; who shared their experiences as workers in companies which use the model of social economy entrepreneurship.

The conference, funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment, in collaboration with ESAFOM, insisted on the participation of the attendees during the whole conference where apart from the testimonies of two entrepreneurs on the application of Social Economy in their businesses, there was a practical activity for students where they evaluated the knowledge they had about the chair.

Social Economy promotes the principles of solidarity and cooperation, including companies, cooperatives and non-profit organisations which prioritise social and environmental wellness over economic benefit. Its importance resides in their ability to promote social inclusion, create sustainable jobs and promote community development.

These entities, when focusing in people and the planet, contribute to mitigate inequality and to build a more fair and stable economy. In a world increasingly unequal, social economy is presented as an alternative model which prioritises common well-being and long term sustainability.

Due to this, from Aula Empresocial we feel it is important to organise this types of conferences to inform as much people as possible of these new ways of entrepreneurship, since they are the people who will enter the job market.
