PhD students expected to obtain their degree within 2025 or postdoctoral researchers who obtained their PhD degree up to 2 years ago
Selection criteria

Participants will be selected according to the following criteria:

- For courses with specific requirements, applicants must be verified as meeting them.

- Preference will be given to applicants who have not taken similar courses in the last three years.

- Likewise, preference will be given to those who have not taken training courses in the last three years.

- In the event of a tie between applicants based on the above criteria, applications must be submitted in strict order (date and time of submission).

Training objectives

Specific learning objectives:

  • To understand Juan de la Cierva and CIAPOS funding schemes available for pursuing a postdoctoral career within the Valencian Community.
  • To acquire a better understanding of what’s expected in each of these schemes and thus be able to adapt your CV’s strengths and weaknesses accordingly.
  • To practice communicating effectively your main strengths/weaknesses, and to create a credible narrative that puts them into context for your long-term academic career.
  • To learn the basics of grant project writing and apply them to your specific project.
Contents

Unit 1 – Juan de la Cierva scheme: introduction, what it is and what it is for

Unit 2 – CIAPOS scheme: introduction and possibilities for mobility

Unit 3 – CV writing: how to build upon your strengths and diminish your weaknesses, and how to draft a concise research group track record

Unit 4 – Essentials on how to write a tailored research project adapted to the program’s expectations

Competencies to be developed

By the end of the course, students are expected to:

  • Understand the Juan de la Cierva, CIAPOS funding schemes, preparing them for future applications to underpin their academic career.
  • Identify strengths & weaknesses within your own CV and be able to produce narratives that maximise their impact and support your long-term career plans.
  • Actively think about your future career and identify and plan the next immediate steps to take to make it happen.
  • Take a step towards writing a competitive grant application.
Criteria and procedure for evaluation of the activity

To pass the course, students need to fulfill the face-to-face percentage of assistance of 85%
