THE EUROPEAN UNION AFTER THE PANDEMIC

This seminar seeks to analyse the challenges and problems facing the EU in the aftermath of the Coronavirus pandemic, but also in the aftermath of the war in Ukraine, which broke out on February 24th 2022 and the consequences of which - political, economic, social and security - have aggravated the situation and further accentuated some of the problems that the pandemic had already caused. Problems from which the EU was already slowly beginning to recover, thanks to the important economic recovery and resilience measures - the "Next Generation" plan - that the EU adopted in July 2020, but which still require further measures to overcome the serious crisis caused by the war.

The seminar's ten conferences cover topics such as the description of the conflict in Ukraine, its origins and possible ways out, and the EU's position on it; the conference on the future of the EU and possible reform of the Union; problems relating to the defence of EU values, especially the rule of law; the EU's defence policy in the face of new challenges; the EU's relationship with the countries of the former Soviet Union; and the EU's relations with the countries of the former Soviet Union; the EU's relationship with the Maghreb countries; the role of education in the development of democratic culture within the EU; the development of equality policies in the EU; the defence of fundamental rights and the challenges they face within the EU; environmental policy and the EU's Green Pact; and the EU's economic governance in the current situation and its possible reforms.

In short, the seminar is intended to be a dynamic activity and to serve to establish an intense dialogue between the speakers and the audience on the current situation of the EU, its future and the challenges it has to face.
