Expression of Interest – MSCA PhD Position in Extracellular RNA, Plant Viruses and Viroids

The Department of Biology, University of Crete, Heraklion, Greece, invites expressions of interest for a fully funded 36-month PhD position, anticipated to start on 1 February 2027, within the Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Network nEXt-RNA. Supervised by Prof. Kriton Kalantidis (University of Crete and IMBB–FORTH), the project—“Exploring the role of extracellular RNA in plant viral and viroid infections”—will investigate extracellular small RNAs in Nicotiana benthamiana and tomato, including RNAs associated with extracellular vesicles and EV-free fractions, their uptake by plant cells, and their roles in infection and defence. The work will employ molecular biology, plant tissue culture, genetics, high-throughput sequencing, flow cytometry, confocal and electron microscopy, and includes a two-month research secondment at the University of Hamburg.
