From the English and German Philology Department in the Philology, Translation and Communication Faculty, and the Vice-Rectorate of Educational Policies and Quality at the University of Valencia, we have the pleasure of inviting you to a free day of reflection entitled:

"EDUCATING IN DIFFICULT TIMES:

Education for Sustainable Development as a tool for social change ".

Sustainable development, as one of the great challenges of our time, is an inclusive concept that applies to all the countries of the world; that is, both for the countries of the North and those of the Southern Hemisphere. It is fundamental for everyone to make efforts towards the human configuration of the world through globalization. Besides that, this concept becomes increasingly part of the educational processes in the education system, where a large part of our capacity is built and fixed to reflect our needs. Beyond the education of environmental policy, Education for Sustainable Development also requires new cultural, social and economic perspectives.

In all the regions it was agreed that the implementation of the objectives and strategies of Education for Sustainable Development is mainly a duty of the state and must be carried out by the institutions. The barriers are particularly social and economic conflicts, low civic participation and lack of funding and personnel. The main topics for Education for Sustainable Development include environmental education, civic education and global learning.

During this day we will have on one hand, a theoretical approach were the Professor of Educational Policy, Dr. Andreas Otto Brunold from the University of Augsburg (Germany) will talk about the importance of training in Education for Sustainable Development. And after the break, there will be a more practical approach by means of a round table, where different entities will describe how they work daily the Education for Sustainable Development in schools.

It will take place next Thursday, December 14th from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Enric Valor Room, on the first floor of the Philology, Translation and Communication Faculty.
