On 22 April 2026, in the frame of the promotion activities for young researchers fostered by the Sustainable Law in a state of global change (JUSOST) project, Nuria Barona Martínez defended her Doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Law at the Universitat de València, the title of which was 'El oficio de juzgar en la sociedad inteligente. Oportunidades y desafíos de la algoritmización de la Justicia.'

The thesis, supervised by Professor Silvia Barona Vilar, achieved the highest mark, standing out for its innovative analysis on the impact of artificial intelligence and algorithmic systems in the jurisdictional function, as well as its critical reflection of the challenges it implies for the contemporary legal system.
The evaluation committee comprised Professor Elena Martínez García (Universitat de València), Professor Fernando Martín-Diz (Universidad de Salamanca), and Professor Andrea Planchadell Gargallo (Universitat Jaume I de Castellón), who evaluated very positively the scientific quality and the relevance of the presented project.
This thesis defence shows the commitment of JUSOST project to training young researchers and promoting lines of research focused on digital transformation of law, contributing to the development of a critical law thinking adapted to the challenges of the 21st century.
