Tuesday, 23 February 2016, the Health and Safety and Environment Service of the Universitat de València carried out the third emergency drill in the Research Institutes of Paterna in the Science Park in Burjassot Campus.

It had the collaboration of the Institute Support Unit, the staff of the Institute of Corpuscular Physics, Safety Director of the University and technicians of the maintenance company of the Institutes and of the company that manages the maintenance of the Campus. Technicians of the Prevention Service of the CSIC and a Radiologic Security inspector of the Valencian Department of Governing and Justice, also participated.

This time the fire drill was carried out in a radioactive facility of the building. It is the first time that this kind of drill is carried out in the Universitat de València.

The Chief of Emergencies, the Chief of Intervention of the building and also de Emergency Teams of the centre were mobilised.   The building was totally evacuated and the internal emergency protocol of the specific facility in the building was implemented.

There was also a very active participation by the firefighters of the Municipal Fire Stations of Paterna and the Local Police of Paterna.

Fire drills allow the evaluation of emergency plans specifically elaborated for each centre or building and checking if its own devices, human and technical, as well as its organization are adequate to face a real emergency situation. Furthermore, fire drills are a great opportunity to practice and disseminate the prevention culture among the university community, as written in the Prevention Plan of the Universitat de València.
