Gemma and Mònica del Rey Jordà

A proposal (Spanish for In the Skin of Olimpia Arocena Torres) that seeks to convey the emotional weight borne by women scientists and teachers by (un)knowing a genealogy of outstanding female figures rejected by the patriarchal society. It focuses on the case of Olimpia Arocena Torres, the first woman teacher who taught at the Universitat de València (1930-1931 academic year) and who was subjected to a process of purging during the Franco regime that cut short her career.

Art al Quadrat (Gema and Mònica del Rey Jordà)

Art al Quadrat is a collective made up of Gemma del Rey Jordà and Mònica del Rey Jordà (Valencia, 1982). Today, her work is significantly marked by overcoming the transgenerational trauma of the Spanish Civil War with works that focus on women's stories. To this end, they work hand in hand with family members and historians as in Las Jotas de las Silenciadas, 2016 (Centro Social Teruel); Al refugio, 2016 (Mislata Biennale); Yo soy. Memoria de las rapadas, 2018 (MUVIM, Museum of Illustration and Modernity of Valencia) and De coros, danzas y desmemoria, 2020 (Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània de València).
