OPTOM Meeting Barcelona is a congress organised jointly by the Consejo General de Colegios de Ópticos Optometristas (CGCOO) and the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO).

The congress gathered from 12 to 14 May in Barcelona more than 30 countries to discuss and share the last research, education projects and advancements in the clinical practice of optometry, ophthalmic optics and vision sciences.

The central topic of the congress is “Vision and new technologies”, where the Alcon Chair exposed its lecture “Biomechanical changes in keratoconus, cross-linking and intrastomal corneal rings patients. A pilot study” in relation to the importance of corneal biomechanics for the diagnosis of corneal diseases and the prediction of treatments and their monitoring. Results that showed an improvement in the corneal biomechanics of patients with keratoconus when treated with two different techniques, cross-linking or intrastromal rings, are presented in this study.
