The series of discussions open to the public of the Girls4STEM project has scheduled a special session for the “International Day of Women and Girls in Science” for Friday 9 at 10am, dedicated to our patronesses Valeria Corrales and Patricia Heredia. ValPat is a duo passionate about STEM areas and is comprised of Patricia Heredia and Valeria Corrales. Patricia is a telecommunications engineer and co-founder of MiniVinci, which is a company that brings science and technology closer to society. Valeria is a young woman whose passions and areas of expertise are science and technology. Along with Patricia, she is co-author of ValPat STEAM. Through this space, they encourage the use of robotics and technology among young people. ValPat is an inspiring example for future generations, proving that women can excel in STEM areas.

The “Professional” discussions are part of the Girls4STEM programme. This special #11February session is aimed at students from education centres all over Spain. It will be held online on Friday 9 February at 10am.

The purpose of these discussions is to draw attention to STEM professional women and their work in a light and relaxed format. The length of the session will be 2 hours long. The experts will tell us about the work they do on a daily basis with examples and narratives. You can attend the whole session, or either the first hour or the second hour. On this occasion, the experts are:

• Gema Cánovas Iniesta: She is an industrial design engineer who works as Associate Design Director in Capgemini-Frog. She manages innovation projects and design teams for a wide variety of industries.
• Irene Torres Espallardo: She holds a degree in Physics and is a doctor specialised in Medical Physics. She worked in research with positron emission tomography (PET) equipment. She currently works in the Nuclear Medicine Service of La Fe Hospital.
• Cecilia Hernández Rodríguez: She holds a degree in Physics and is an expert in Technological Innovation and its funding. She worked for a long period in the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI). Currently, she is head of the Science and Exploration Department of the Spanish Space Agency (AEE).
• Sonia Pérez Díaz: She holds a degree in Mathematics and is a doctor in Physics and Mathematics. She is specialised in algebraic and computational geometry, symbolic, numerical and approximate algorithms. She works as a Full Professor in the Department of Physics and Mathematics at the University of Alcalá.

This discussion is part of the activities organised by Girls4STEM from the ETSE-UV, the Office of the Vice-Principal of Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Policies, the Equality Unit and the Office of the Vice-Principal of Innovation and Transfer of the Universitat de València. Besides, they have the support and funding of the Valencian Employment Service (LABORA) of the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Government).

The main objective of the Girls4STEM project is to promote vocations in STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) among the general public and, in particular, among girls.
