Video of the conference “Antimicrobial resistance: a Public Health challenge for healthcare organisations”

The Valencian Institutional School of Health Studies Chair (EVES), the pharmaceutical company Glaxosmithkline (GSK) and the Universitat de València (UV), organised a session in which multiple speakers talked about and debated with the public about the antimicrobial resistances and their consequences for the current health sector.

This event was held on 27 September, where a great number of professionals contributed with information on one of the most relevant topic in the current health sector panorama, given its increasing threat for global health. The topics discussed where the RAM and PRAN European strategies, statistics and relevant data about impact in population, as well as the innovation options within the antimicrobial therapies, among others. The opening ceremony, held at the Aula Magna of the UV Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, was done by Chair Director, D José Manuel Almerich Silla, deputy director of the Valencian School for Health Studies (EVES), D Gustavo Zaragoza Pascual, and Head of Business Relations at GSK - Valencian Community, Miss Rocío Aguilar García.  

During the session, Dr Reyes Castillo from the Coordination Unit of the Spanish Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistances (PRAN) gave a presentation on the European strategy of antimicrobial resistance and PRAN. Additionally, Dr Rafael Cantón, Head of the Microbiology Service of the University hospital Ramón y Cajal, Dr Paula Ramírez, intensivist at the University and Polytechnic Hospital La Fe of Valencia, and Dr Esperanza Merino, from the Contagious Diseases Unit of the University General Hospital of Alicante, commented aspects related to the impact in antimicrobial resistances in healthcare, highlighting the problem it is for Public Healthcare. Lastly, Dr Sandra Sistiaga, GSK Site Engagement Lead and Clinical Development, talked about the need for therapeutic innovation in this field. 

 The event was moderated by D Arturo Artero, professor of this university and head of service of Internal Medicine Service at the University Hospital Dr. Peset of Valencia.
