General Regulation on the Recognition of Abroad Qualifications

The requirements for the recognition of Higher Education abroad qualifications are regulated in the following Rules:

Order ECI/1519/2006

This is a summary of the content of this regulation in relation to the recognition of abroad degrees of first and second cycle:

-The recognition of abroad degrees is the official recognition of an achieved abroad qualification as equivalent to the requirements for the achievement of a Spanish qualification offered in the Official University catalogues.

-The recognition is subjected to the exceeding of the Complementary Educational Requisites if shortages are observed in the accredited education for the achievement of an abroad qualification, in relation to the requirements for the achievement of the Spanish qualification intended to recognize as equivalent.

- The complementary educational requirements may consist in the exceeding of a Competence Assessment, the realization of a work placement, the production of a project or in the attendance to tutored courses in order to make up for the educational shortages observed.

- The acceptance or refusal of the recognition depends on the Ministry of Education, which will decide over a maximum period of six months, starting from the application date in any of the records of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.

- The procedure begins via the application of the student, addressed to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports Office, using the Application Form and attaching the complementary documentation established in the Order ECI/3686/2004.
