
The Faculty of Geography and History is celebrating the opening ceremony of the Master’s Degree in Cultural Heritage: Identification, Analysis and Management on 17 October.
The opening conference will take place at 18:00 in the classroom F3.4 and it will be given by Mrs. Gemma Contreras, deputy director of the IVC+R. The conference’s title is:
"The three cardinal points of heritage: conserve, restore and investigate. The case of IVCR".
Gemma María Contreras Zamorano has a degree in Geography and History, with the speciality in History of Art by the Universitat de València, where she obtained the DEA and the doctorate about the ink in Valencian manuscripts between 1250 and 1600. In addition, she is graduated in Fine Arts, speciality conservation and restoration of cultural assets, by the Universitat Politècnica de València. Currently she is a professor at the master’s degree in Diagnosis of the State of Preservation of the Historical Heritage of the Universidad Pablo de Olavide of Seville, which she previously took. Since 1999 she works for the Valencian Government as a restorer of graphic works and archival material, and in 2008 she won the place of section head of this department in the IVC + R CulturArts. Since November 2015, she is deputy director of CulturArts, branch of conservation, restoration and research, IVC+R.
She has published two books about heritage and conservation, and 50 articles on paper restoration and research regarding materials and application techniques. She has taught courses in conservation and restoration of graphic works and archival material in various Spanish and international universities (Basque Country, Seville, Managua-Nicaragua, Quito-Ecuador) and other public institutions such as the Alhambra in Granada, Archive of Urgell, Suleymaniye Library (Istanbul), CIRMA (Guatemala), INHCA (Nicaragua).
