Business Intelligence and Big Data are the main source of employment as well as the main reason for the start-up of products and services business within the field of information systems. According to the American consultant Gartner, the planned investment within the field for this year is of 16,900 millions of dollars.

Professionals who treat massive data are called Data Scientists and have been turned into one of the most-highly valued professions within the field of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). According to the American company Gartner, in the subsequent years, around 75% of enterprise will invest in Big Data.

The data have acquired great notability in the ‘information society’ we live in.  Nowadays, the ability to learn from data allows making quicker and more precise decision as well as helping on a better adaptation for our environment.

People with this professional profile are, in fact, sought for due to their scarcity.  For next 2016-2017 academic year, the ETSE-UV will offer the Master’s Degree in Data Science, whose main objective is the training and specialisation of students in the manipulation, transformation, analysis and visualization of data; so that students are able to obtain useful knowledge through massive data. Additionally, this postgraduate programme aims at joining cross-disciplinary and cross-departmental abilities with data analysis within the Universitat de València.
