Jorge Cascales, professor in the Master’s Program in Gender and Equality Policies at the University of Valencia, receives an honorable mention in the 1st François Poullain de la Barre Awards
The Assembly Hall of the María Moliner Library of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Zaragoza hosted the presentation of the I François Poullain de la Barre Awards in gender and masculinities studies, promoted by the University of Zaragoza, the journal Filanderas and the Association Men for Equality of Aragón.
In this first edition, the jury awarded the first prize to Alba María Boix Vicente for her work “Rethinking masculinities from the didactics of History: Between emerging practices and resistances”, and granted a runner-up prize to the work “Analysis of the first mapping of the pro-equality men's movement in the Spanish territory: profiles, practices and activism from 2017 to 2020”, carried out by Jorge Cascales Ribera (Universitat de València) and Joaquim Montaner Villalonga (University of Cádiz and Fundación Iniciativa Social), both members of the Masculinities Observatory of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche.
The awarded study constitutes a pioneering contribution to the knowledge of the men-for-equality movement in Spain, by offering the first mapping and global analysis of its groups, networks and forms of activism during the period 2017-2020.
Jorge Cascales Ribera, professor of the Master's Degree in Gender and Equality Policies at the UV, highlighted that this recognition “makes visible the consolidation of masculinity studies within the field of gender studies, and strengthens the link between university research and social commitment”.
The event, which featured the keynote lecture by professor Santiago Boira Sarto titled “Perpetrators and dynamics of violence within the couple”, ended with the presentation of the awards and the presentation of the winning works, in an atmosphere of dialogue and recognition of gender-perspective research for the achievement of equality.
