First performances of the representatives of the UV in Rio

Four students of the Universitat de València, members of the Divina Pastora Chair for Adapted Sports of the Universitat began their adventure, representing Spain in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Once inaugurated the Games, athletes of the UV began the different competitions. Héctor Cabrera was one of the first in premiere, the javelin thrower and student of the Physical Activity and Sports Science, played the last 8 September the test of tshot putting, in which he classified in the 8th position. His next test will be 14 September, with the javelin throw, his speciality.

For his part, Maurice Eckhard cyclist and student of the Master’s Degree in Physical Activity and Sport management competed the 9 September in the modality of individual pursuit of 3km C2, in which he finished in the 7th position, so he couldn’t fight for the medals (only the fourth first were classified). His next event it will be on the road bike, concretely the next Wednesday 14, in the individual time trial of the category MC2, speciality in which he was bronze in London 2014, and in which he aspires to get another medal.

Who was on the verge to the fight for the medals was Mónica Merenciano, judoka and student of Physiotherapy, who began the Games losing in the first combat in quarter-finals of -57kg with a Korean opponent. With no option of arriving to the final, the judoka won her Hungarian opponent in the play-off combat, and she won with two waza-ari. They were playing for the bronze, but her opponent in this occasion was the Japanese Hirose.  After a very even combat, the Japanese resolved the match 1 minute before the end, with an ippon. Mereciano finished in the meritorious fifth place.

Last of all , Hector Álvarez the yachtsman and  student of Business Management and Administration will compete in the sonar category between the 12 and 17 September.
