Telecommunication Engineers and the reduction of noise pollution

Less than a week ago the International Noise Awareness Day was celebrated, an event that is already 20 years old and whose objective is to put on the table the problem of acoustic pollution of Western societies. Telecommunication professionals can help put a brake on this unpleasant reality, as they are best suited for performing noise measurement reports. If you want to learn more on this topic, this is your post.

Stress, fatigue, insomnia... These are just some of the harmful effects that excess noise produces on individuals. With the emergence and continuous growth of industrial - and also human - activities, Western societies have experienced increasing noise pollution, which, far from diminishing, seems to be increasing. That is why, on 26 April the International Noise Awareness Day was held for the twentieth year, in order to promote the care of the urban and environmental atmosphere and improve people’s life quality.

In this task of increasing well-being, Telecommunication engineers specializing in acoustics play a key role. They are best prepared to perform noise measurement reports and help companies obtain an acoustic certificate and take corrective measures to soundproof the premises.

Economic development and the rise of industrial and human activity have increased excessive noise in cities and the need to curb this problem

How are these measurements performed? First, Telecommunication engineers perform several types of acoustic measurements such as airborne noise insulation, a noise study to the outside environment and another study to the interior environment. Subsequently, an explanatory report is prepared. In it, professionals detail the used instrumentation, the legislation in force, the taken measures and the results of the study. They also include conclusions on prevention measures and annexes with drawings of the premises.

The figure of this specialised Telecommunication engineer is becoming more and more important, as noise pollution progressively becomes a social concern. Ecologist collectives, social movements and neighbourhood associations are demanding the reduction of the annoying noise. Therefore, the specialisation in acoustics for the group of Telecommunication engineers is an excellent job opportunity with a clear social service.
