
The Hospital General Universitario de Valencia celebrated Wednesday 10 February a briefing addressed to all professionals in the department and to all those interested in knowing the situation and characteristics of the Zika virus.

The head of International Health and the Travellers Council within the Unit for Infectious Diseases of the Hospital General, Magdalena García, explained in a meeting yesterdat the origin, characteristic and up to now facts which are known on the Zika.
According to the event’s promoter, this meeting’s objective is for professionals to be able to carry out early diagnosis and properly look after affected people who could come to an examination room or to the emergency room.
Additionally, the meeting insisted on measures for infection prevention among those who may travel to risk areas by following recommendations on the use of repellents. Also they gave specific recommendations for pregnant women and for people with chronic or immunodepressing diseases no to travel to risk places and adopting protection measures to face sexual transmission of the Zika.
García also explained, appart from the virus’ origin, the characteristics it shares with other better-known diseases like the dengue and the chikungunya.
The Hospital General, which has been the first in the Valencian Community to present a lecture on the virus, will prepare more meetings on this topic as new scientific evidences appear as well as on other dieseases which may become an epidemological risk. They also announced that in the subsequent days, the Valencian Department for Universal Health will upload a protocol to be applied for Zika cases.
