DESCRIPTION OF RESEARCH ACTIVITY

The Biopathology group is a multidisciplinary team with more than 35 years of research in the study of the biological processes underlying various pathological processes. The group's activity is characterized by the use of techniques of cell biology, genetics, functional genomics and imaging in the study of biological and genetic mechanisms, the identification of biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets and the development of experimental models in cancer, cardiovascular diseases and metabolic diseases.

Research Line on Central Nervous System Tumors. This line of research is dedicated to the study of tumors of the central nervous system addressing clinical, neuropathological, genetic, molecular and metabolomic aspects. These studies are carried out both in tumors "in vivo" and in experimental models "in vitro", with a translational orientation with the objective of biopathological characterization towards the identification of molecular targets with application to diagnosis, prognosis and therapy. It is registered at the University of Valencia (GIUV2013-174). Contact: concha.lopez@uv.es

Research Line on Metabolic Biomarkers. The general objective of the research line is the identification of metabolomic biomarkers, either individual or in combined profiles, of disease for early detection, new subgroups, patient stratification, prognosis and prediction of response to therapy. To achieve this, the group has developed its own analysis tools that allow it to tackle a wide variety of biomedical problems. Contact: daniel.monleon@uv.es

Research Line on Molecular Oncology. This line is involved in translational cancer research with special interest in the search for new biomarkers related to angiogenesis, immunoregulation and tumor stem cells in cancer; as well as the implementation of new technologies in liquid biopsy. The multidisciplinary team includes researchers with experience in different areas such as: molecular and cellular biologists, clinical oncologists, thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, biologists, biotechnologists, pathologists and immunologists. The research activity is linked to the General University Hospital of Valencia, with Laboratories in the Research Foundation of the General Hospital of Valencia and in the Joint Trial Unit CIPF. Research Line in Neurological Impairment. The Neurological Impairment research group has been investigating for many years fundamentally in the field of early detection and prevention of cognitive and functional impairment in the pathology of patients with liver cirrhosis who present minimal hepatic encephalopathy (EHM), that is, a cognitive impairment and mild functional. Chronic liver disease progresses in different phases, including alcoholic or nonalcoholic liver disease and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) that can lead to fibrosis and cirrhosis.
