Biography

Throughout his academic career, Avelino Vicente has combined research with teaching and outreach, three facets that he considers fundamental. After completing his PhD at the University of Valencia in March 2011, he undertook a period of international mobility through postdoctoral positions in Würzburg (Germany), Orsay (France), and Liège (Belgium). In July 2015, he joined IFIC (CSIC–University of Valencia) as a postdoctoral researcher and held a Juan de la Cierva Incorporación fellowship during the period 2016–2017. Following a brief period employed as a Senior Research Fellow by the University of Valencia, he obtained a postdoctoral position within the framework of the FÍSICA SABOR project, of which he was the Principal Investigator. He subsequently held a Ramón y Cajal position at the University of Valencia from January 2020 to September 2024, after which he became a permanent lecturer at the same institution.

Throughout his research career, his work has been consistently oriented towards frontier topics in particle physics, exploring a wide variety of extensions of the Standard Model. He has published more than 60 research articles in high-impact, peer-reviewed international journals and has delivered talks at the most important conferences in his field, frequently as an invited speaker. In the INSPIRE database [http://inspirehep.net/author/profile/A.Vicente.1], which is commonly used in his research area, his publications had received a total of 4,688 citations as of 14 November 2025, with an h-index of 35. As a result of his scientific contributions, he has been awarded three six-year research periods ("sexenios") by ANECA. In 2023, he was granted the R3 certificate by the Spanish State Research Agency, recognising his status as an established researcher.

Since joining the University of Valencia as a Ramón y Cajal researcher, he has carried out teaching duties in the Bachelor's Degree in Physics, where he has taught the courses Calculus I and Quantum Physics Laboratory for several years. Since 2024, he has served as the degree coordinator. He is also a member of the monitoring committees for the Double Degrees in Physics and Mathematics and in Physics and Chemistry. He holds one five-year teaching evaluation period ("quinquenio"), corresponding to the period 2007–2020. He has supervised the PhD theses of Paulina Rocha Morán, defended at the University of Bonn (Germany) in August 2019, and Pablo Escribano, defended at the University of Valencia (Spain) in September 2023. He is currently supervising the PhD theses of Antonio Herrero-Brocal and Javier Pérez-Soler, both at the University of Valencia, with expected completion dates in 2026 and 2027, respectively. In addition, he has supervised numerous Bachelor's and Master's theses and is regularly invited as a lecturer at international schools aimed at doctoral students.

Finally, he also devotes a substantial portion of his time to outreach activities and has extensive experience in science communication across a wide range of formats.

Biography

Premios

Biography

Ana Cros studied Physics in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (1990) and finished her PhD in Applied Physics in the University of Valencia (1994). Since 2011 she is Full Professor at the Department of Applied Physics of the University of Valencia. She developes her research at the Institute of Material's Science (ICMUV). Her present interests point to the use of Scanning Probe Microscopy techniques, combined with optical excitation, for the characterization of the electrical properties of nanostructures. In the last two years we have developed at ICMUV a laboratory of advanced Scanning Probe Microscopy techniques that includes conductive AFM sensitive from pico to nano Ampère, and Kelvin Force Microscopy under visible and  ultraviolet illumination. She has co-authored more than 100 international papers in the field of condensed matter physics and materials science.
