The winning teams of the fourth edition of the “Va De Dades! Valencian Statistics Competition for Data Science” contest, organized by the Universitat de València and the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, will represent the Comunitat Valenciana in the national contest “AVATAR: Discovering Statistics in the Land of Data”, organized by the Sociedad de Estadística, Investigación Operativa y Ciencia de Datos (SEIO) which will be held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from June 25 to 27, 2026.
Va De Dades! 2026 AWARDS
The winning teams of the fourth edition of the “Va De Dades! Valencian Statistics Competition for Data Science”, organized by the Universitat de València and the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, will represent the Comunitat Valenciana in the national competition “AVATAR: Descubriendo la Estadística en el País de los Datos”, organized by the Sociedad de Estadística, Investigación Operativa y Ciencia de Datos (SEIO) which will be held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from June 25 to 27, 2026.
The winning projects in this edition were:
- In Category A (1st-2nd year of ESO), the project entitled “The Impact of Social Media Use,” created by Tesa Borenovic, Irene Carrascosa Catalina, Vera González Mislata, and Ainara Sanjuan García, and supervised by Borja Navarro Martínez, from the Gençana school in Godella (Valencia).
- In Category B (3-4 ESO + FPB), the project entitled "Glimpses at Risk", created by Núria Marí Cifre and Li Wendy Xiyan and supervised by Òscar Mascarell Claver, from IES Almussafes in Almussafes (Valencia).
- In Category C (Bachillerato and FPGM), the project entiled “Do We Eat Well?” A practical study on adolescent diet,” created by Aïcha Doumia Gómez and Aitana Palop Mateu and supervised by Virginia Hidalgo Villanueva and Lydia Moragón Fandos, from the IES Juan de Garay in Valencia.
The travel and accommodation of the winning teams to participate in the national phase, AVATAR, will be financed thanks to a sponsorship agreement between the Instituto Valenciano de Estadística (IVE-GVA) and the Universitat de València.
The jury also awarded three special distinctions to outstanding projects for their high quality:
- Special distinction awarded by the IVE-GVA, for the project entitled “Gender Violence”, created by Sofía Barber Vasylevska, Valeria Blasco Garzarán, Lucía De Zárate Albors and Aitana Oliver Meléndez, and supervised by Borja Navarro Martínez, from the Gençana school in Godella (Valencia).
- Special distinction awarded by the Bachelor's Degree in Business Statistics at the UMH, for the project entitled “Voting at 16: Are We Ready?”, created by Mara Ferri Ribera and Violeta Zuccarello De Ves, and supervised by Marta Carles Fariña, from IES Benlliure in Valencia.
- Special distinction awarded by the Degree in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the UMH, for the project entitled “Use and Impact of AI on Young People”, created by Francesc Alegre Romaguera, and supervised by José Rodolfo Das López, from IES Luis Vives in Valencia.
