The studies offered in this degree are linked to a wide variety of professional fields that require knowledge of languages and specific interlingual mediation tasks, both in the translation of written texts and in the interpretation of oral discourse. In any case, translators and interpreters are more than mere reproducers of texts, they are communicative mediators between their users.

They play a key role in international public institutions, in international missions such as embassies or consulates, but also in private companies, which are becoming increasingly multinational. The transnational expansion of markets involves the linguistic and cultural localization of advertising and information, for which graduates of this degree are competent professionals. The cultural industries also have an increasingly transnational projection, which implies the development of the translation of audiovisual texts in their different modalities, in addition to the already consolidated field of literary translation. Tourism, of course, requires competent professionals for interlingual mediation. The activity of translation or interpreting is also required in various specialised fields, such as scientific and technological production, economic texts, legal texts and the administration of justice, and the development of social integration policies.

Translators and interpreters can work as employees in private translation agencies or as staff in public institutions and private companies. They may also work on a freelance basis in various professional fields where interlingual mediation is required.  With additional accreditation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they can also work as legal translators.
