Gatekeeper training for suicide prevention: a workshop to understand, detect, and support people at risk of suicidal behavior.
The Gatekeepers for Suicidal Behavior workshop is part of the strategic line LAEVSCS05 of the Strategic Plan of the University of Valencia, under the Vice-Rectorate for Sustainability, Cooperation, and Healthy Living:
"Development of a mental health care service for the university community and a program for the prevention of mental health problems, as well as the promotion of a prevention policy that contributes to improving the psychosocial environment and mental health of the university community."
It contributes to the development of a mental health prevention service and program through the training of gatekeepers (detection, conversation, support, and safe referral), the establishment of coordinated action pathways with university services, and the promotion of a preventive policy that reduces stigma, enhances safety planning, and improves the campus psychosocial environment.
Additionally, it reinforces strategic line VSCS02 (promotion of healthy lifestyle values and prevention).
The workshop also functions as a training and implementation tool for the “Guidelines for Action in Cases of Suicidal Behavior among Students”: it presents its circuits and protocols, trains participants in their practical application, and includes an extension with applied cases and updated resources to facilitate implementation in academic centers.
