The Erasmus+ Programme includes student mobility of the Study period abroad at a higher education institute (HEI).

The study period abroad may also include a traineeship period.

To ensure that high quality mobility activities have an impact on students they have to be compatible with the student’s personal development needs and degree-related learning. The study period abroad must be part of the student’s study programme leading to a degree at a short cycle level (vocational training), first cycle (Bachelor’s), second cycle (Master’s or equivalent) and third cycle or doctoral level.

Student mobility can be in any subject area/academic discipline.

The duration of the mobility period is from 3 to 12 months.

A student can participate in mobility periods that add up to a total of 12 months for each study cycle, regardless of the number and type of mobility activities. Participation with a zero-grant from EU funds also counts towards the maximum duration:

During the first cycle (degree or equivalent), including the short cycle (vocational training) (EQF levels 5 and 6);

During the second cycle (Master’s degree or equivalent, EQF level 7);

During the third cycle, as a doctoral candidate (doctoral level or EQF level 8).

The venue where students carry out the mobility is in a programme country or a partner country, different from the country of the sending institution and in the country where the student has his/her accommodation during his/her studies.
