Professor Juan José Martínez Sierra, from the Department of English and German Philology at the University of Valencia and director of CiTrans, has coordinated the teaching innovation project Accessible University: creation of an audio guide of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication (FFTiC) for blind or visually impaired people, funded by the Service for Lifelong Learning and Educational Innovation of this university and by the Faculty itself. The main objective of this project was to create an audio guide of the Faculty in app format for mobile devices, aimed at members of the university community with some kind of visual impairment. This tool, which can already be downloaded for free from Google Play for Android devices and will soon be available for iOS (until then, users of this system can access from the following website: http://citrans.uv.es/audio/), allows to break barriers and promote the independent and inclusive use of the building facilities. The initial idea was to resort to the practice of audio-description (a form of audiovisual translation that allows blind or visually impaired people to access television, cinema, theater, ballet, opera, museums, etc.) in order to design a tool that would make it possible for this group to physically move around the different spaces of the Faculty with autonomy and precision. Thus, taking as an example the audio guides of certain museums, which not only offer an oral description of the works of art, but also include small explanations on the location of spaces (emergency exits, toilets, etc.) and the logic of the route, after months of work it has been possible to finalize an audio guide in Spanish (soon in Valencian) that gives its user a total and rigorous freedom of movement. Together with Professor Martínez Sierra, several teachers and technical staff of the aforementioned Faculty have collaborated, as well as a large number of students of the Degree in Translation and Interlinguistic Mediation of the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 courses. This audio guide, a clear example of the social commitment of the Universitat de València, makes the FFTiC its first accessible building for blind people, and its creator team hopes it will not be the last.
