The Science Park of the University of Valencia is hosting the AS4EDI project kick-off meeting, an initiative which aims to promote the use of eDelivery Digital Services Infrastructures between public and private entities. The project, funded by the European Union through the CEF mechanism, is coordinated by the Institute on Robotics and Information and Communications Technologies (IRTIC) and the consultancy firm LMT. The six EDI providers (Electronic Data Interchange providers) in the consortium are Billit (Belgium), OpusCapita (Finland), Viaduct (Sweden), Calvi (Netherlands), Generix (France) and NetEDI (United Kingdom).

The objective of the AS4EDI project is for the six entities involved in the project, which are also certified PEPPOL Access Points, to update the eDelivery technology solutions they offer to their customers. Thanks to this project, companies and public sector orgnisations will be able to exchange information through a digital infrastructure that guarantees the security and confidentiality of their messages according to the technical requirements established by the European Union.

What is the eDelivery

The eDelivery is a collection of distributed nodes that follow the same technical rules and are therefore able to interact with each other. It is based on a model where each participant becomes a node using standard transport protocols and security policies. This solution helps public administrations to exchange data and electronic documents with other public administrations, companies and citizens, in an interoperable, secure and reliable manner.

The eDelivery thus allows a reduction of costs by information exchange as it eliminates the paper format and causes a reduction of transaction time as it is immediate.

eIDAS Regulation

One of the main problems in promoting the use of eDelivery is the variety of technical specifications in each Member State. The European Commission has therefore promoted the standardisation of digital communication protocols between European Union countries through Regulation EU 910/2014 on electronic identification and trust services (known as eIDAS).

Through the CEF-Telecom funding programme, the European Union funds projects such as AS4EDI, whose aim is to enable EDI providers to implement their solutions by creating common security protocols and policies for electronic information exchanged between EU countries.
