The LISITT group at the Institute on Robotics and Information and Communications Technologies (IRTIC) at the University of Valencia has been responsible for the maintenance and modernization of the systems in the Telematics Department for Mobility of the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) over the last four years.
The ever-changing technological landscape makes it necessary to upgrade existing systems to incorporate new software solutions and meet the new requirements of those responsible for the day-to-day management of the inter-city traffic management centers operated by the Telematics Department for Mobility.
The information technology (IT) systems maintained by LISITT provide 24/7 support for decision-making relating to traffic management, for the exchange of information between the DGT’s internal departments to ensure administrative procedures are handled more effectively, for the exchange of information with other national and international authorities, and for the dissemination of information to external users in real time.
Among the initiatives undertaken by LISITT are the development of the LINCE application, which is dedicated to the management of traffic incidents at national level, and the modernization of the DATEX II node, based on a European standard, which is responsible for receiving, validating and integrating information from various data sources, as well as for publishing and disseminating specific information to relevant stakeholders.
LISITT has adapted the National Access Point (NAP) for traffic data in accordance with the provisions of Directive 2010/40/EU. It has also been responsible for modernizing applications used by the DGT, such as the one relating to the management and geolocated visualization of the inventory of road equipment, and the one that provides the public with up-to-date information on traffic incidents, roadworks, traffic restrictions, incident forecasts, etc.
These measures have placed the DGT’s traffic management systems amongst the most advanced in European public administrations.
