
The students on the University of Valencia’s (UV) Master’s degree in Continuing Professional Development in Advanced Robotic Surgery visited the IRTIC facilities to attend a practical session delivered by the ARTEC group on technologies applied to robotic surgery. The session covered robotics, advanced visualization, mixed reality, simulation and interaction interfaces, whilst also highlighting the uses of the MIRACLE data space.
By linking technological research to the real-world needs of the surgical environment, the session proved to be very enlightening. It brought together professionals from the fields of gynaecological, urological, general, gastrointestinal and thoracic surgery.
As regards MIRACLE, the initiative focuses on creating a secure and interoperable data space for robotic and laparoscopic surgery, where clinical information can be processed intelligently to improve surgical outcomes, support healthcare professionals and foster innovation in digital health across Europe.
The objectives of the master's degree are to learn the principles of laparoscopic, thoracoscopic and robotic surgery, as well as endoscopic and robotic instruments. It also focuses on working skills in the different surgeries of the main surgical specialties, using simulators progressively for this purpose.
Likewise, the handling, suturing and ligation of the different anatomical structures is part of the training, as well as learning to manipulate the console and the coordination of the endoscopic arms of the daVinci robot. In conclusion, the program enables the surgical specialist to master the surgical techniques of the future.
