Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) could prevent 60% of accidents due to off-road accidents according to a research coordinated by Dr. Ignacio Lijarcio, INTRAS researcher.
Smart barriers and restraint systems can actively prevent road accidents according to a scientific-technical study conducted by INTRAS of the University of Valencia, which analyzes the causes and possibilities of preventing them through the implementation and use of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and has been presented in the framework of the Global Mobility Call held in Madrid.
The implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) can have a significant impact on the reduction of road accidents in off-road accidents, a type of accident that involves high levels of mortality and severity of injuries. The combination of advanced technologies in road infrastructure and driver awareness is an effective strategy to reduce the number of crashes and improve safety on Spain's roads.
According to Dr. Lijarcio, head of the study at the University of Valencia, “this research is pioneering in Spain, and its dissemination is essential for the agents involved in mobility to better understand the circumstances that lead to road accidents and to be able to provide concrete solutions to reduce them”.
