Tomorrow, 9 July, will take place the act and inaugural conference that this year will be pronounced by the Geography Full University Professor of the Universitat de València, Joan Romero. During the morning, the training courses in the UV headquarters in the calle Tossal will also begin.

Tomorrow will begin the 42th edition of Summer University of Gandia. It will start early in the morning in the UV headquarters in the Tossal street with the beginning of some of the courses conforming the training offer.

In the afternoon, the inaugural act will take place at 7:00pm in the Assembly Hall of the Casa de la Cultura Marqués of González de Quirós. The first part of the act will correspond to the institutional inauguration and will be presided by the Principal of the UV, Mavi Mestre, and the mayor of Gandia, José Manuel Prieto. At 7:30pm the inaugural conference will take place, and this year it will be under the charge of the emeritus geography full-time university professor of the Universitat de València, Joan Romero. The conference will have the title of ‘El momento de Europa’, because for the presenter: ‘without social Europe there is no political Europe, and without political Europe it is impossible to consolidate a geopolitical Europe and a self-voice’. A conference in which Romero will explain how, from his point of view, ‘Europe has lost sight’ and finds themselves in a crucial dilemma: move forward into a ‘new foundational moment’ or surrendering to the ‘sweet decline’ with the corresponding risk of political disintegration.

Joan Romero has been a professor of Geography, History and Political and Administration Sciences in the Universitat de València ever since he started his responsibility of teaching in 1980. Furthermore, he is author or editor of 30 books and almost a hundred articles and book chapters and director of a dozen doctoral theses. His research activity is centred in topics related to territorial governance and organisation of the State. He has also been general director of the Universities of the Government of the Valencian Community (1983), director of the Valencian headquarters of the UIMP (1990 y 1991), general technical manager of the Ministry of Education and Science (1985-1987) and counsellor of Education and Science (1993-1995).

Furthermore, tomorrow, before the act, at 6:30pm, the inauguration of the exhibition ‘Calo Carratalá: Paisaje y cambio climático. La transformación de la mirada’ will take place in the exhibitions room of the Casa de la Marquesa. A sample, produced by La Nau Cultural Centre of the UV, and that can be visited until 30 August.

This year, the Summer University of Gandia presents the 14 training courses that, with different duration and teaching responsibility, will begin on Wednesday at the UV headquarters in the Tossal street. The topic is really varied and the enrolment will stay open until the beginning of the course through this website www.uv.es/ueg.
