The Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) of the University of Valencia participates on Saturday 24 with three workshops in Igual-ment-fest, the festival promoted by the Department of Equality of the Valencia City Council with the aim of promoting gender equality and face sexist violence from an artistic, positive and social vision. The three proposals of the University of Valencia are directed by women.

The ICMol is a centre of excellence in Molecular Chemistry and Nanoscience located in the Science Park of the University of Valencia. Founded in 2000, in 2016 it was accredited by the Government of Spain as the Unity of Excellence María de Maeztu. With hundreds of researchers, it covers various areas of research in materials science and nanoscience, and its scientific objectives are focused on the synthesis and study of molecules or functional molecular materials that exhibit magnetic, electrical or optical properties.

The three workshops with which the University of Valencia participates are Prepare your own slime, Illuminating the city with luminescent bars and Invisible inks. The first of them consists of making the famous slime from common elements of daily life such as transparent glue, borax and water. To colour it, cake dyes will be used and a few drops of fluorescent substances will be added that will make the slime shine when illuminated with an ultraviolet lamp.

The workshop Lighting the city with luminescent bars explains the operation of this type of bars, for which the concept of chemiluminescence, that is to say the production of light of different colours from a chemical reaction, will be explained and put into practice. The Invisible inks workshop, with the help of iron solutions with Prussian blues, will allow writing secret messages that will be deciphered through a chemical reaction that occurs in the process with water.

The workshops that ICMol will offer at Igual-ment-fest are related to the research topics that are developed in the institute, with the aim of transmitting basic concepts with which it works.

The event, on behalf of the Institute of Molecular Science, will have the participation of Alejandra Soriano, Marta Viciano, Alicia Forment, Raquel Galian, Lorena Rosaleny, Ruth Manzanares, Safaa Elidrisi, Raquel Ballestero, Silvia Giménez, Eugenia Miguel, Marta Mon, Ignacio Rosa, Garin Escorcia, Marc Morant, José Miguel Carbonell, Alejandro Cortes.
