The most significant achievement by the LISITT team during this period has been the deployment of the DGT's new interactive eTRAFFIC map. This publicly accessible web portal provides an accurate real-time graphical display of road conditions and traffic incidents, with information updated every minute.

LISITT has also enhanced LINCE, the application used to manage traffic incidents nationwide, and modernised the DATEX II node, based on a European standard. This system is responsible for receiving, validating and integrating information from multiple data sources, as well as publishing and disseminating specific traffic information to the relevant stakeholders.

The laboratory has also adapted Spain's National Access Point (NAP) for traffic data in accordance with the requirements of Directive 2010/40/EU. In addition, it has modernised several applications used by the DGT, including those for managing and geolocating the road equipment inventory and those providing the public with up-to-date information on traffic incidents, roadworks, traffic restrictions, expected disruptions and other relevant travel information.

The eTRAFFIC platform has been fully optimised to ensure optimal display on any type of mobile device. Users can customise the map by selecting the types of incidents they wish to display, tailoring the information to their individual needs. With a single click, they can view the key details associated with each incident and access the latest images captured by traffic cameras installed along the road network.

eTRAFFIC also displays the messages currently shown on roadside information boards and is available in all of Spain's official languages, as well as in English and French. The interface also includes a button to centre the map on the user's current location.

In addition to incorporating data collected by the DGT's roadside sensors and equipment, as well as reports from the Civil Guard traffic patrols, the application integrates incident information obtained from social media platforms and other external traffic information sources, once it has been verified by traffic operators.

New software alternatives

The rapidly evolving technological landscape makes it essential to continuously update existing systems in order to incorporate new software solutions and meet the changing requirements of those responsible for the day-to-day operation of the interurban traffic management centres overseen by the Telematics for Mobility Division.

Between 2021 and 2025, the information systems maintained by LISITT have provided continuous 24/7 support for traffic management decision-making, facilitated information exchange between the DGT's internal services to improve administrative procedures, enabled data sharing with national and international public authorities, and ensured the real-time dissemination of traffic information to external users.
