The University and other Valencian research entities organise the dissemination event Science and Beer

The Universitat de València (UV), the Foundation for the Promotion of Health and Biomedical Research of the Valencian Community (Fisabio) and the INCLIVA Biomedical Research Institute, both entities dependant on the Conselleria de Sanidad, the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia (UPV) and The Spanish National Research Council in the Valencian Community present on 29 Tuesday, October at 7.30pm a new Science and Beer session, a scientific dissemination act. The event will take place at the Fábrica de Hielo (C. José Ballester Gozalvo, 37) and is of free entry until seating is complete.

Science and Beer is a scientific dissemination event  in which the research service of the participant entities offer some brief talks about their research and their lines of action. In them, the audience is free to interact, make any questions, and debate with the research service with the goal of stimulating the interest and bring science closer to people. The talks will be translated simultaneously to signs language by the Federación de Personas Sordas de la Comunitat Valenciana (FESORD).

This edition will count with Ladislao Salmerón, full time Psychology professor at the UV, who will present the talk “No tires tus libros en papel”, in which he will question the necessity of a scientific point of view over the usefulness and effectiveness of lecture on paper, how it can promote a better comprehension, and they will discuss the futures where paper and digital gadgets will coexist and enrich lecture.

On her behalf, Mª Teresa Prats, nurse from the Health Department of Xàtiva-Ontinyent and researcher in Fisabio, will explain a new micturition gadget for hospitalised women, a pioneer innovation that will solve the problems with known gadgets since it has been specifically designed for the female anatomy.

The researcher Olga Rivero from INCLIVA will also intervene with her talk about mental disorders “Jugando al escondite con los trastornos mentales: en busca de los biomarcadores ocultos”.

What is more, Paco Pedroche, researcher from the Instituto Universitario de Matemática Multidisciplinaria (IMM) from the UPV, will offer their scientific monologue “El infinito es un acordeón” that analyses mathematical concepts like the infinite sets. People attending the event will get to know a “guy called Pi” and will listen to some logarithmic jokes.

During the session Science and Beer on Tuesday will also participate Marta Arroyo, researcher from the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA-CSIC), with a talk about how nutrition is more than just digesting carbs and proteins. Some of the topics discussed will be the way of producing food, preparing and sharing it.
