About us

Our group works on clinical and technological applications of  Vision Physics  (physiological optics, psychophysics and mathematical models of visual processing), not forgetting basic research in this field. Our work lies along three basic lines:

  1. Basic vision research: Studies of structure and function of visual system from psychophysical experiments. Visual Processing Models.
  2. Applications for clinical psychophysics, in two different fields:
  • Development of psychophysical tests for detecting, grading and classifyng visual problems: Assessment of existing testing devices. Repeatability, sensitivity, specificity. Study of measurement distorsion factors. Concordance analisis. Design and testing of new diagnostic tests.
  • Technological applications of vision sciences: Characterization of image capture and visualization devices. Development of specific colorimetric characterization methods (point-to-point methods). Application of image visualization devices as stimulus generators for psychophysical testing. Applications of image capture devices as colorimeters. Applications of the measurement of color for green chemistry, to estimate analytes that modify sample color. Characterization of optical elements. Design of measurement protocols for evaluation of in-vitro optical quality. Mesurement of optical and visual quality of intraocular lenses.
  1. Clinical applications for improvement of the visual function of patients. Basic research and development of applications, in particular for amblyopia, to determine which stimuli stimulate would serve to improve the visual function of the non-amblyopic eye.
