Carmen Godino talks about body activism and resistance to aesthetic norms at the Faculty of Social Sciences (UV)

Fat women fuck: bodily activisms against the medical-aesthetic norm

On Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 7:30 p.m., the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Valencia will host the talk titled “Fat women fuck: bodily activisms against the medical-aesthetic norm”, presented by Carmen Godino.

This event, organized by the research group COSiDES — Social Corporalities, Subjectivities, and Dissidences, will be introduced by Joan Palomares, professor at the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at the University of Valencia.

The talk will address bodily activism practices that challenge socially imposed medical-aesthetic norms, focusing on fat bodies and their capacity for agency and desire, breaking stereotypes and making resistances visible.

The event is supported by the Valencian Government — Second Vice Presidency and Department of Social Services, Equality, and Housing, as well as the Vice-Rectorate for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusive Policies at the University of Valencia and the collective Diversitats.
