In the 5th century B.C. philosopher Empedocles exposed that nature was composed of four elements: water, earth, air and fire, all of which had to live in perfect harmony to avoid chaos, a love-hate relationship. Love was needed to transform and balance the world. Hate was inevitable, as its uncontrollable interaction brought them closer to destruction.
The Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana presents an a cappella programme that, through the texts, melodies or harmonies, will evoke the four elements with compositions of Monteverdi, Palestrina, Guerrero, Schubert, Brahms, Santiago Veros, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Morten Lauridsen and Matilde Salvador.
