On Wednesday 18 October, Performing Arts Group of the Universitat de València premieres its autumn programme dedicated to different stage languages and their universes, following the previous semester’s programme.

The programme will start with ‘Madame’, by the dance company CienfuegosDanza. The new programme will run from October to December, with a dozen of shows including the University Theatre Exhibit, a tribute to Valencian astronomer Jerónimo Muñoz and the cycle ‘Teatre de la Memòria’ by Escalante.

All the scheduled plays will be performed in Matilde Salvador Hall at La Nau Cultural Centre, at 7 pm, and tickets can be booked in advance in the shops La Tenda de la Universitat (La Nau and all three UV campuses) or on the website latenda.es/entrades.

Moreover, as usual, there will be a colloquium every Wednesday after the play with the company of the performed play.

With ‘Madame’, CienfuegosDanza company revisits the figure of Madame Warton and reflects on the female body, femininity in the Victorian era and mythical figures of the Western tradition through the work of UV’s research group headed by Laura Monrós-Gaspar, head of the Performing Arts Group, and Yoshua Cienfuegos’ choreography.

The XXVI University Theatre Festival, where there will be three performances, will take place from 23 October to 3 November. This year, the Exhibit will start with ‘De bèsties i bestioles’ by ASSAIG-Grup de Teatre de la Universitat de València, produced by Sara Acàmer and Pep Sanchis, where leading roles are taken by animals that talk and explain their experiences, fears and hopes. The play will be performed on 23, 24 and 25 October.

On Monday 30 and Tuesday 31, the UV’s dance group presents ‘Supernova i companyia’: after the historic discovery of a supernova 450 years ago, they recreate celestial figures and explore each person’s own universe through Toni Aparisi’s choreograpghy. This play is “a tribute made by the Universitat de València to the figure of Valencian astronomer Jerónimo Muñoz”, explains the head of the Performing Arts Group, Laura Monrós-Gaspar.

‘Ellas…Nosotras’, which will review the legacy of three internationally renowned women creators, will put an end to this year’s edition of the Exhibit. This play will be performed by the UV’s dance group, with choreography and direction by Christinne Cloux.

Memory and stage universes

In November, there will be space for cycles and a diversity of themes and stage universes. That is the case of the ‘Cicle de memòria històrica’ of the Escalante Theatre, in which the Performing Arts Group of the UV collaborates. This cycle will be held from 6 to 11 (escalantecentreteatral.dival.es).

Global warming awareness and a social wake-up call will come with ‘DALIAS. Planeta Tierra’ (days 15 and 16). The authors of this work, Segio Sanchis and Carlos Lizac, present a journey through live music, dance, video mapping and voice-over which, with the viewer’s help, will turn this show into an interactive experience.

In addition, the Othello classic is revived with ‘Desdémona’ (days 22 and 23). This adaptation, directed also by Claudio Hochman and Cecilia Silva, addresses a very current drama despite the distance of four centuries.

Before the end of the month, ‘Los días felices’ by Samuel Beckett will be reviewed throughout the work created and directed by David Torres.

On 13 and 14 December, María Andrés will put in scene the work ‘Límits’, with dramaturgy by Pablo Blasco.

The students of the Performing Arts Group of the UV will close the autumn programme on 20 and 21 December with the dramatised reading of José Sanchis’s work ‘Furor matemático’, under the direction of Jorge Picó and Eva Zapico.
