Research Career of the Teaching and Research Staff at the Universitat de València

The teaching and research staff (PDI. In Spanish: Personal Docente e Investigador) of the Universitat de València, carries out teaching, research, innovation and knowledge transfer activities and, when appropriate, is also involved in university management or administration.
According to the Organic Law 2/2023, of 22 March, on the University System (LOSU), the teaching and research staff is formed by universities’ teaching staff (civil servants PDI) and by contracted PDI. 

  • Civil servants PDI:
    • Full professors
    • Associate professors

* Full teaching and research capacity

* Access requirements: a doctorate degree and certification by the ANECA that enables access to the corresponding public services.

* Selection by public contest.

* Dedication regime: Preferably on a full-time basis.

  • Contracted PDI:
    • Tenure-track 1 Lecturer: temporary contract and full-time dedication. It is essential to have a doctorate degree. Selection by public contest.
    • Permanent lecturers: open-ended contract, preferably on a full-time basis. It is essential to have a doctorate degree and certification by the ANECA or by the quality agency of the Autonomous Community. Selection by public contest.
    • Adjunct Lecturers: open-ended contract, on a part-time basis, among distinguished professionals who can prove they carry out their main activity outside the university academic field. Selection by public contest. Teaching functions.
    • Substitute Lecturers: temporary contract, on a full or part-time basis. Selection by public contest. Teaching functions.
    • Visiting Lecturers: temporary contract, on a full-time or part-time basis, for teaching or research staff from other Spanish or foreign universities and research centres that can make a significant contribution to the performance of the university centres.
    • Distinguished Professors: temporary contract for lecturers and researchers, both Spanish and foreign, who are developing their academic or research career abroad, and whose excellence and scientific, technological, humanistic, or artistic contribution are significant and internationally recognised.
