Dr. Aina Faus, from the University of Valencia, has recently joined the IPRODES research group.

Aina Faus-Bertomeu is a lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at the University of Valencia (UV). Her research career is framed within the sociology of health and sexualities, with a particular focus on sexual health, social inequalities, public policies, and forms of well-being and distress. Her work critically examines the mediation of medical knowledge in shaping these policies and in producing norms around bodies, sexuality, and well-being. She also addresses issues related to ageing, well-being, and care, incorporating mixed methods that connect the structural and subjective dimensions of health.
From an intersectional perspective, she analyses the relationship between social structure, health, and citizenship, integrating both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

She is the author of an extensive body of scientific work published in journals such as Gaceta Sanitaria, Revista Española de Investigaciones Sociológicas (REIS), Revista Española de Sociología (RES), Empiria, and Sexualities, as well as in books and chapters published by Tirant lo Blanch, Catarata, and Springer. She has presented more than seventy papers at national and international conferences (FES, ESA, SESPAS, SEE, EAPS) and has actively participated in seven competitive research projects —some of them international— including one as Principal Investigator, focused on different dimensions of health and sexualities.

She has undertaken several research stays at internationally renowned institutions, including the Center for Gender Studies and Research (CIEG) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) (2022), the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Granada (2017), and the research units “Démographie, Genre et Société” and “Mortalité, Santé et Épidémiologie” at the Institut National d’Études Démographiques (INED) in France (2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015).

She is currently a member of the research group IPRODES (UV) and collaborates with DEMOVAL and MEDIASPHER (UV) as well as CRITERI (UA). She also serves on the editorial team of Encrucijadas. Revista Crítica de Ciencias Sociales and the editorial board of Disjuntiva. Crítica de las Ciencias Sociales.
