The research team has focused on studying the innovation strategy of business in general, with special emphasis on SMEs and the role of their management teams. Although innovation strategy has been a common transversal axis, different lines of research on this topic have been developed throughout the team’s research trajectory. These lines are structured based on a backgrounds-processes-results model that offers an integrated and holistic understanding of innovation strategy.

• In the first place, at a company level, the team has focused on the research of innovation processes, including digital transformation and business model innovation. Similarly, the team has developed research about the internationalisation strategy of SMEs, paying special attention to international entrepreneurship. (Line 1 - processes)
• In the second place, it has been studied the role of management teams, the entrepeneurship orientation and the role of the chief executer officer (CEO) in order to better understand the background of these processes. (Line 2 – background)
• In the third place, it has been studied their effects on the internationalisation of SMEs (export performance), the business results and the development of new products in order to understand the process of business innovation.
