Awards on Local Development

Since 2019, IIDL has been organizing the Local Development Award (1st edition) in different modalities. The purpose of this award is to promote society's awareness of the importance of the local environment to achieve sustainable, inclusive and equitable development, in order to improve the living conditions of citizens, their ability to participate in public life and the values associated with the concept of development as defined in the 1994 Aalborg Charter and the 2030 Agenda (UN, 2015).

For this reason, IIDL wishes to highlight with this award the initiatives that deserve to be valued as a referent to be followed in the future for economic, social and environmental development at the local level. The awards are convened annually and the Jury is composed of members of the Permanent Board of the Inter-University Council of the IIDL, representatives of public and private institutions, social groups and winners of previous editions at the proposal of the directors of the two bodies.

The awards will be announced annually during the first quarter of the year. They are non-profit making and are purely honorary. Their budget, for the organization, promotion and celebration, is covered by the contribution of different collaborating entities.

A distinction is awarded in one or more of the following categories:

  • Teaching and research career
  • Relevant publication on local development issues.
  • Research project (completed or in progress)
  • Local development entity or good practice (public, private or third sector)

The candidatures for each of the Local Development Awards are presented by members of the IIDL, social groups and institutions and those personalities invited by the organization, as well as the members of the Jury itself.

The awards ceremony will take place during the celebration of the Sessions on Local Development of the Valencian Community. For this reason, the Jury will meet, at the most, one week before the celebration of this Conference.
