International Seminar on Translation, Intercultural Studies and Tourism

Traducción turística

The Universitat Politècnica de Valencia celebrates its IX Sessions on Terminology Applied to Translation by organising its first International Seminar on Translation, Intercultural Studies and Tourism, on June 15 and 16.

10 june 2016

Tourism is one of the most important sources of income in the Spanish economy and, as such, one of the sectors that creates more jobs. Because of its purely intercultural nature, this creates a broad and varied job demand for translators.

Organised by the Department of Applied Linguistics of the Universitat Politècnica de València, this edition of the IX Sessions on Terminology Applied to Translation focuses on the tourism language, the role it plays in the translation and the study of this specialised language from an intercultural perspective.

The programme includes roundtable conferences and workshops about different fields related to translation and the language of tourism. On Wednesday 15, after the registration and the seminar opening speech, there will be a plenary session by Stéphane Patin, from Paris Diderot University, about the “Institutional Translation of the Euro-based Eurolexis”. Afterwards, there will be two conferences on “Neology and Lexical Creation” and the “Creation Process of the Tourism Multilingual Dictionary”, a roundtable with Tourism and Linguistics experts and, after the lunch break, two more conferences about the role of songs “as tools to come closer to other cultures” and another one called “Translation of Cultural References from English into Spanish”.

The second session, on 16 June, will start with a presentation on “Translation from Spanish into German of Justifying Particles and Constructions on Almudena Grande’s Literary Work” and another one presenting “Language Technologies for Translators in 2.0 Tourism”.  The final act of the conference will be a Workshop named “Post-editing of User-generated Content in 2.0 Tourism: English-Spanish”.

These sessions may be interesting for students and graduates of the Master’s Degree in Creative and Humanistic Translation of the Universitat de València, as they are tailored both for members of the academic scope (researchers, professors) and members of the professional scope (linguistic services specialists, professional translators).

The enrollment shall be carried out through this link. The enrollment fee is 35€ for students and professors of the Colectivo Universidad and members of the Xarxa, and 50€ for speakers and other people interested.
