The NewIn-situApproaches project is led by Pilar Campíns Falcó, with participation from researchers Rosa Herráez Hernández, Carmen Molins Legua, Yolanda Moliner Martínez, and Neus Jornet Martínez from the University of Valencia, and Mª Carmen Prieto Blanco from the University of A Coruña.
Currently, society is demanding new devices for monitoring real applications to solve in place problems and decision-making. On the other hand, it is mandatory to consider the greenness and sustainability of a potential solution and this project is focussed on this way in the context of in situ analysis introducing new tools for solving environmental, agri-food, industrial and health problems and generating new knowledge.
The fundamental concept of the NewIn-situApproaches project relies on availability of distributed sustainable and green in-situ approaches, providing complementary information and connected to some whole processes or platforms in several fields to improve them. These distributed solutions can be focused only to an analyte, which requires to be evaluated in different conditions or to consider several compounds of interest or even through orthogonal strategies.
The NewInsituApproaches project is focused to: :
- Develop new in-situ approaches from analytical chemistry.
- Demonstrate the usability of developed systems in real settings.
- Turn analytical chemistry information into knowledge about environmental, industrial and health problems.
- Enhance trust on the studied processes.
- Meet the European Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability Towards a Toxic-Free Environment.
The work will start with developing the new setups in lab environments and bearing in mind the use of the greenest and the most sustainable materials and procedures, followed by testing new in-situ approaches in real conditions. The targets are ammonia/ammonium, hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans, vesicles, cells, nanoplastics, nanomaterials, bocides and active molecules from plant extracts. The solution will be piloted within defined real-life use-cases at the end-users that provide clear insights for the exploitation.
