The Chair of Valencian Pilota was created in July 2016 thanks to a collaboration agreement between Universitat de València and Generalitat Valenciana. This agreement implied the development of a series of educational, cultural, research and expansion university activities aimed to learn and disseminate information about the traditional Valencian sport of pilota.
Among the activities highlighted there are three awards for Final Degree Projects, and three for Master's Degree Final Projects or Doctoral Theses on Valencian pilota, as well as the organisation of educational courses, seminars and congresses with a dissemination and educational goal. Research on hand injuries of players to improve their career quality and safety is also under the Chair.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports will give a fund of 75,000 € to collaborate with Universitat de València with the expenses of these activities, and UV will develop an activity programme and provide the human and material resources necessaries.
The Chair of Valencian Pilota aims to fignify pilota and turn it into a reference of cultural and academic value. The Chair will award Degree and Master's Degree Final Projects as well as provide support for two doctoral theses about Valencian pilota. The Chair governance falls into the UV responsibilities, previous proposal of the Mixed Commission.
