One of the main reasons for the cultural diversity of Valencian pilota is the existence of modalities which are divided depending on the facilities they are played in or the ball type. There are two kind of modalities: dyrect style and indirect style. Undoubtfully, the direct style has a wider range of varieties.
In this style, two teams of one or more players face each other in opposing fields, hitting the ball one against each other while trying to get the other team to make a foul in order to gain points.
Two teams of one or more players face each other on the same field. The ball is hit against a wall named frontis so that the other team can hit it. This group has three modalities: frontó, frontó amb frares and one wall.
