Presentation

The Prosocial Synergy Research Group (GISProsoc) is made up of a group of international researchers and teachers from both public and private universities. Its main research objective encompasses both prosocial behaviour in itself and prosocial synergy.

GISProsoc brings together researchers from different areas of psychology, including basic psychology, developmental and educational psychology, personality, ssychological assessment and treatment, social psychology, behavioural science methodology, and psychobiology. Also included in the group are also education science professionals specialised in research methods and educational diagnosis. Due to this disciplinary diversity, research can be conducted with greater scientific rigour.

The international nature of the group makes it possible to take into account cultural and intercultural elements in the study of prosociality, to analyse synergies and to meet the requirements of rigorous and scientific research. Furthermore, the group adopts the perspective of the bio-psycho-social model, taking into account both biological (brain structures and hormones) and psychological bases: cognitive (moral reasoning, criminal thinking, intelligence...), emotional (empathy, psychological well-being...), motivational (social support, university social responsibility) and relational bases linked to prosocial behaviour.

The group recognises and employs scientific theoretical models for the study of prosocial behaviour. It is supported by psychological assessment methods and instruments with adequate reliability and validity, and conducts systematic reviews and meta-analyses that synthesise evidence from empirical studies. These processes synthesise scientific information in an explicit way, facilitating the work of professionals in the health and social sciences.

In their research, the group addresses prosocial behaviour and its predictor variables. It also designs, evaluates and applies intervention programmes in educational contexts at all levels—Preschool, Primary School, Secondary School, University—taking into acount elements and processes related to the presence of students with functional diversity. Another major interest is the care, health and psychological well-being of people. To this end, they develop tools and propose specific and practical interventions aimed at the general population, including people in the educational field (teachers, administrative staff, parents, pupils, students, etc.) belonging to all educational levels (preschool, primary school, secondary school and university), carers of dependent people, individuals with health problems or lack of psychological well-being, as well as people linked to social areas, especially those of vulnerability and exclusion (women, migration, prison, etc.)). Lastly, it is important to highlight that the group investigates prosociality as a protective element against various addictions (online gaming, social media, substance consumption, sex, tobacco, video games, etc.).
