Elena Denia is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Valencia, and a Visiting Researcher at the Centre for the Public Awareness of Science at the Australian National University (CPAS-ANU). Previously, she was a Civic Science Fellow at Tufts University (funded by the Rita Allen Foundation), where she conducted research on the public perception of science and technology and taught the course Social Perception of Science. Before that, she held a postdoctoral fellowship in the STS Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she also collaborated with the MIT Museum. She was also a postdoctoral researcher in the European Commission project ISEED (Inclusive Science and European Democracies), coordinated by Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia.

She earned her PhD in Science Communication at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), within the INGENIO Institute (CSIC-UPV), with the dissertation Social Perception of Science and Digital Engagement (cum laude). Her research and teaching focus on public understanding of science, STS studies, science communication, and the history and philosophy of science. Her academic career is marked by extensive international mobility, with research stays in Denmark, Australia, the Netherlands, Italy, and the United States.

Alongside her academic work, she served for four years on the Board of Directors of Ciencia en el Parlamento (Science in Parliament), where she helped establish in 2021 the first scientific advisory office for the Spanish Congress of Deputies (annual budget: €324,000). She is also an active science communicator, a work recognized with the Prismas Award in 2017. She regularly participates in public science communication activities—including informal gatherings, academic conferences, roundtables, festivals, exhibitions, and workshops—and has been invited to speak at events such as TEDx and Pint of Science, as well as numerous activities with a gender perspective.

She has contributed to the launch of an Open Science Center (UNAWE Foundation) aimed at bringing science closer to those without access, and to the creation of the DANA Center for Neuroscience & Society at MIT as a member of its Demonstration Team.
