Description

For decades, universities have progressively incorporated teaching and research structures related to affective-sexual diversity and gender identity. This trend soon spread beyond the English-speaking world to other cultural environments such as Europe and Latin America. The group Education and LGTBIQ+ Diversity (EDi) aims to fill a gap in terms of structures of this type at the UV, specifically in the educational field, and, on the other hand, is created with the intention of being an interdisciplinary research area for several people who have in common the concern for the educational world and the urgency of working (from research and practice) for a fairer and freer school, in which the diversity present in societies is reflected and valued.

The members of the group belong to different areas of knowledge linked to education. From general didactics and specific didactics, they participate in the training task in the degrees of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education of the UV and other universities in the state, in the Postgraduate Course in Reading and Literary Education in the 21st Century (UV), the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training (UV), the Master’s Degree in Research in Specific Didactics (UV), and the Master’s Degree in Psychology of Education and Human Development in Multicultural Contexts (UV-UASD), the latter taught in Peru and the Dominican Republic. The members of the group also supervise Degree Final Projects, Master’s Degree Final Projects and Doctoral Theses within the framework of the aforementioned studies.

Goals CT
  • Interdisciplinary research in relation to family, affective-sexual and gender identity diversity in the educational context.
  • Advise and carry out training activities in coordination with groups, associations, CEFIRE and other organisations.
  • Investigate the references (literary, audiovisual...) of students when it comes to knowing and understanding the world, and the presence of diversity in these environments.
  • Promote the production of Degree Final Projects, Master’s Degree Final Projects and Doctoral Theses on family, affective-sexual and gender identity diversity in education.
  • Generate knowledge (teaching contents, interventions in congresses, publications...) in relation to the object of study.
  • Systematise and organise the work carried out at the Universitat de València in relation to LGTBIQ+ diversity in a database accessible to the university community and society.
  • Promote symposiums, conferences and congresses on diversity in the educational world.
  • To elaborate, based on the results of research, didactic proposals in the different areas of knowledge and at the different areas of knowledge and at the different educational levels in order to work positively on diversities and their intersections.
Research lines
  • Intersectionalities: LGTBIQ+ diversity and other diversities

Research on the intersectionalities between LGTBIQ+ diversity and other factors such as social class, exclusion, gender, ethnicity, culture, migration and functional diversity. This line of work addresses the complexity of bodies and lives from an intersectional point of view; that is, from the idea that we are traversed by different identities that shape and define us, and from the importance of this issue when addressing diversity in the classroom.

  • Diversity in materials, spaces and classroom activities: didactic proposals

Proposals linked to the presence of diversity in classrooms at different educational levels: classroom materials, treatment of spaces, textbooks and other school materials in reation to the presence and treatment of affective-sexual diversity and gender identity, the treatment of the body and non-normative bodies. Studies on the references (literary, audiovisual...) of students when it comes to knowing and understanding the world, and the presence and treatment of diversity in these contexts.

  • Studies on diversity and its connection to the educational world

LGTBQI+ studies and their link to the educational world, Queer and Crip theories and their educational implications, the changes of recent years and the latest research on these issues in the international academic spehere. It is also interested in the changes brought about by equality laws and their consequences in schools, and in the ideas and beliefs of teachers and university students about diversity in the classroom.
