Dr María José Ruiz and Dr Verónica Zingales were in attendance at the SOT, which was held in San Diego from 22 to 25 March.

Drs María José Ruiz and Verónica Zingales participated in the SOT, in conjunction with Emma Martínez López, treasurer of AETOX, a prominent international scientific conference in the domain of toxicology. During this event, they presented the research conducted by members of our research group.

Among these studies, those conducted by PhD students Felipe Franco-Campos, Martina Sánchez-Contreras and Carmen Martínez-Alonso are particularly noteworthy. These researchers have focused their efforts on the advancement of alternative methodologies (NAMs) and the utilisation of differentiated spheroids derived from the SH-SY5Y cell line. The primary objective of this research is to elucidate the mechanisms of action of pesticides and mycotoxins. This investigation is undertaken within the overarching framework of the 3Rs approach.

Moreover, PhD student Abel Narváez presented studies on the quantification of acrylamide and mycotoxins in food, which were conducted in collaboration with our project partner Luana Lizzo (University of Naples). These results reflect the ongoing progress of our project and consolidate the scientific advances achieved in the field of experimental and analytical toxicology.

Participation in this conference has also facilitated the establishment of new scientific collaborations and the exchange of experiences and developments in the field of toxicology with researchers and professionals of international renown.

In a similar vein, it was a source of particular satisfaction to have the opportunity to reconnect with our esteemed colleague Dr. Félix Carvalho (president-elect of IUTOX), as well as with Mari Stavanja (former president of the HOT), along with other colleagues and professionals in the domain of toxicology.
