Anna Mateu, member of The Two Cultures Observatory research group (O2C) and chief editor in the Mètode journal, has participated in the Institutional Conference on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science of the Universitat de València.

Bringing to light women’s role in scientific activity was the new objective on the Conference ‘Science, genre and innovation in the Universitat de València’ that was organised on occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Every year, in the week of 11st February, institutions and organisms of research hold conferences, lectures and activities with the aim of emphasizing the work of scientific women and awaken vocations to scientific and technological studies among girls.

Anna Mateu, member of The Two Cultures Observatory (O2C) and chief editor of Mètode, a scientific dissemination journal edited by the Vide-dean of Research of the Universitat de València, participated in the conference as a moderator of the table dedicated to “Recruitment of female scientific talent in Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy”. Projects developed by different departments with the objective of attracting child and girls to these disciplines were presented in the table. In the table participated: Chantal Ferrer and Martina Delgado, lecturers of Applied Physics; Pascuala García, full university professor of Optics; Amparo Tórtola, lecturer of Theoretical Physics; Isabel Cordero, lecturer of Applied Mathematics and Vicent Martínez, full university professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics.

The conference was completed with other round tables dedicated to scientific dissemination from a genre perspective in several fields such as medicine, nutrition, as well as the need of awaken interest among girls and young women to disciplines such as chemistry and engineering.
